Years later, Alice returns to Wonderland to find a forest of hybrid animal/trees, once majestic, now despondent waiting to return to their former glory.
Born out of a fascination with the idea of the uncanny, these drawings were part of my final collection for my Masters at LCF. The uncanny is, most simply, the combination of the familiar and unfamiliar; emotion as action, constantly oscillating between attraction and repulsion. Starkly set against the gothic or shocking, the uncanny is about that push and pull and a deeper engagement with a subject matter. For this collection I created a series of drawings of my own basilisks, a traditional symbol for that most uncanny of all subject matter: death. My basilisks live within the waters of the deep sea, hidden from the view of most; lurking and waiting to be discovered.
